Brain Scanner (Archived)

From 2023 through 2024 I poured countless hours into turning a humble bicycle helmet into a brain scanner for dogs. The goal was to capture neural and motion data with non‑invasive sensors and decode basic intentions like movement or rest. In January 2025 I chose to shelve the project after recognizing I achieved my optimal results after determining a mixture of overfitting and hardware limitations with the sensor system.

What I learned: Building the prototype taught me a ton about hardware design, signal processing and the complexities of working with living subjects (even when experimenting on myself). Those skills now inform my robotics work and open experiments.

What’s next: The dream of communicating with animals hasn’t gone away — it’s just on a slow build while I focus on building robotic and automation solutions and exploring synthetic biology. If you’d like to read more about the story behind the helmet, check out the posts on my projects page.
