During a semester abroad in Italy, I made friends in a local hardware store and tried building an early shot at an electromagnet. I took precautions when I found an excuse to use a flame thrower. The project, while poorly thought out or designed, was one of my first independent builds. It paved the way to more sanely try incredibly improbable things. Science is messy — and that’s part of the fun. Don’t try this on your patio.
A shelved project that attempted to noninvasively decode signals in the motor cortex. Detecting precise movement labels such as "Isolated Right Pinky" failed but more obtuse labels like "Right Arm Motion" and "Walking" worked quite well in the end.
